Apple has introduced Apple TV profiles to the iPhone and iPad with the first beta of iOS 27.2 and iPadOS 27.2. The feature was previously available on Apple TV devices with tvOS 26.2.
With profiles, users can create separate viewing accounts in the Apple TV app and switch between them from the account settings. A profile requires a name, content rating, and an indication of whether it is for a child.
For child profiles, the Apple TV app can restrict access to age-appropriate movies and TV shows. The default setting limits content to a PG rating, while parents can customize the permitted age ratings for more control.
The feature could be particularly useful when a parent lets a child use an iPhone or iPad to watch content. Children can have their own viewing profile without affecting the parent's recommendations or viewing activity.
Apple TV profiles make the Apple TV app more practical for shared-device use. Bringing the feature to iPhone and iPad also gives parents a simpler way to separate children's viewing preferences and content access.
