We have been hearing plenty of rumours about the iPhone 8 but this one could be a first even for smartphones. While we have been seeing dual camera smartphones running Android before the iPhone 7 Plus, what we have all been waiting for is dual optical image stabilisation (OIS) setup. Currently, all smartphones, including the Apple iPhone 7 Plus feature OIS on one lens only. But according to a famed analyst, Apple may pull off a dual camera with OIS with its upcoming iPhone 8 and there’s more.

According to recent research note reported by MacRumours, KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, believes that the upcoming tenth anniversary iPhone 8 Plus may feature a dual OIS set up. While the current iPhone 7 Plus model packs in OIS for just the wide angles lens, Kuo believes that Apple will bring OIS to the telephoto lens in the future iPhone Plus model as well.

“We believe Apple will add OIS function to the telephoto CCM in order to enhance the selling points of next year’s new iPhone. We think photo quality and optical zoom range may both improve as a result. We expect the telephoto lens will be redesigned to support OIS in the telephoto CCM, with challenges likely coming from: (1) the need to increase the image circle of the telephoto lens, which will lead to longer calibration time and a more complex assembly processes; and (2) a redesign of the telephoto lens, as an increased image circle will result in degraded photo quality around the corners.” said Kuo in the research note.

A report from Forbes adds that Apple has an OLED crisis on its hands. While it had been conveniently neglecting OLED displays for long, Raymond Soneira of DisplayMate Technologies, said that they have taken it “as far as it can go”.

OLED display feature better viewing angles and faster response time as well. Apple could even go with an always-on display mode if need be. Gone are the days when OLEDs colour reproduction was considered inaccurate.

The last we heard about the upcoming iPhone, it was supposed to feature a bezel-less design with glass edges that even fold over till the back. The home button is expected to be placed below the display itself and the same may be the case of the fingerprint scanner.

Rumor has it that Apple is expected to release a 4.7-inch iPhone 8 along with the standard 5.5-inch model and a new 5-inch model as well. There are also reports of Apple working with Biel and Lens Technologies, a Chinese company that supplies glass panels to Apple and Samsung. Meanwhile, there have been reports on how Apple wants OLED in next iPhones, but suppliers are not ready yet.
