Apple’s quest to dominate the video streaming business has added two new executives to the company’s growing roster of original video content talent.
Two business affairs executives — Philip Matthys from Hulu and Jennifer Wang Grazier from Legendary Entertainment — have reportedly joined Apple to fill positions on the company’s video content team.
According to Variety, Mattys was hired by Apple last month. He will be the head of business affairs for worldwide video and reports directly to Zack Van Amburg and Jamie Erlicht. Amburg and Erlicht are the two former Sony executives who have been tapped to lead Apple’s original video efforts.
Apple’s original video content has been lackluster thus far. The company has launched its first original shows — Planet of the Apps and Carpool Karaoke through Apple Music. Apple reportedly plans to spend $1 billion on original video content in 2018 and will pursue more dramatic shows with wide-ranging appeal.
Jennifer Wang Grazier will start working at Apple in January. She reports directly to Matthys. During her time at Hulu, Matthys was in charge of dealmaking and policy for Hulu’s original shows.
Apple currently has two major original series in the works. One is a reboot of Steven Spielberg’s Amazing Stories anthology from the 80s. The other is a newsroom drama starring Jennifer Aniston and Reece Witherspoon. It’s unclear how Apple plans to distribute its shows once they’re ready for the public.
