It looks like the rumour of an iPhone X is even more likely to be true, as an iOS developer discovers mentions of both the iPhone X and iPhone 8 in code relating to iOS 11.

The tweet, which is included above, shows his searches for names returned both iPhone X and iPhone 8. This does surprise me as it feels logical to stick with the iPhone "S" naming convention this year. Of course it may be that Apple is making such large improvements to the existing iPhone devices - those without the new OLED screen - that it doesn't feel the S name is appropriate this time around. But there are no rules here, Apple can name these phones pretty much anything it wants.

It would be interesting if the iPhone 8 Plus was to be nearly identical in features to the iPhone X. Perhaps the OLED screen is the only thing that differentiates the two devices. In some ways, this would make a lot of sense because there are rumours that Apple will struggle to make the iPhone X in numbers large enough to satisfy the likely massive demand. If that's the case then perhaps those not too bothered about the 10th birthday of the iPhone will just stick to the traditional design and grab the new look in a year or two when it's the mainstream style.

Certainly, the introduction of wireless charging has some people excited - I have no idea why given the dismal failure of this technology on Android devices. In the past there have been problems delivering a wireless charge on phones with metal bodies, however, back in 2015, Qualcomm claimed to have sorted this out. Apple and Qualcomm aren't enjoying the best relationship at the moment though, which might stop Apple licensing new tech from the firm. It's also entirely possible Apple has worked out how to do this on its own. I suppose it's also possible the rumours of wireless charging aren't even true.

Apple won't make this mistake, it is much more likely that it will have developed a system that's secure. If it couldn't I very much doubt it would use the feature at all. A leak from Apple in the Homepod firmware suggests it's going to be included though. But that leak also suggests the company is using IR light - which is how Microsoft does it on Windows.
