Apple CEO Tim Cook is set to receive one of the Newseum’s highest honors for his impact on creating technology that has revolutionized the way human’s communicate.
The Newseum — which promotes the expression of freedoms protected by the First Amendment — revealed today that Cook will be the recipient of this year’s Free Expression award. Cook’s award will be presented at a dinner at the Newseum on April 18.
In its announcement for the special event, the Newseum notes that Cook is being recognized for using his high-profile position “to take a public stand on major societal issues, including racial equality, privacy, protecting the environment, access to education and LGBT rights.”
Joining Tim Cook at the event will be civil rights leader and US congressman John Lewis who is set to receive the organization’s Lifetime Achievement Award. Also among the honorees will be Playboy Founder who is getting the Arts and Entertainment Award.
