macOS Sequoia Adds Headphone Accommodations for AirPods

The accessibility setting for AirPods, called headphone accommodations, is now available in macOS Sequoia, enabling more control over playback.

Apple added headphone accommodations to iOS 14 in 2020, and it finally arrived in macOS Sequoia. The feature helps users choose precisely how incoming audio can sound based on different control options.

The menu can be found in Settings -> Accessibility -> Audio -> Headphone Accommodations. Users can manually tweak each section or go through a setup genie to find the right settings with audio playback.

Headphone accommodations are available when connecting any AirPods model or most modern Beats by Dre headphones. Users can choose different tone balances, audio boost levels, and how Transparency Mode amplifies sound.

There is even the option to input the results of an audiogram for even more fine-tuned personalization.

The following headphone models work with headphone accommodations:

  • AirPods Pro 1 & 2
  • AirPods 2 & 3
  • AirPods Max
  • Apple EarPods
  • Powerbeats
  • Powerbeats Pro
  • Beats Solo Pro
  • Beats Fit Pro

macOS Sequoia will be available in the fall of 2024. It will likely be released alongside iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and the other operating systems shortly after the iPhone 16 event in September.
