iOS 12.2 Beta 3 Brings Changes to Apple News, TV Remote App and Group FaceTime Fix

Apple just released the third beta build of iOS 12.2 to developers, bringing a bunch of fixes and new features to the iPhone and iPad.

iOS 12.2 beta 3 arrived just over two weeks after developers received the last build. There are also new betas out for tvOS 12.2 and watchOS 5.2 to go with the macOS 10.4.4 beta that came out yesterday.

Registered developers can grab the new beta builds from Apple’s online developer portal. iOS 12.2 beta 3 can be installed as an over-the-air update if you have the previous build already or if you add the proper installation profile to your device.

What’s inside iOS 12.2?

Today’s update includes a new UI for the Apple TV remote app. The Apple News logo has been tweaked ahead of the launch of Apple’s news subscription service. “Apple News” is no longer spelled out and uses the  symbol.

The About section in the Settings app has been updated with new sections that make it easier to find info. Group FaceTime has finally been fixed and is available again. There’s also a new section under Siri & Search >> Apple Store, indicating Today at Apple sessions will be suggested to users.

Previous updates brought changes like Apple News for Canada. Four new Animoji have been added for giraffe, shark, owl and boar. There’s also a new display mirroring button in Control Center, plus tons of bug fixes and performance improvements. Support for AirPlay 2 with third-party TVs has also been added.

After poking around in iOS 12.2’s code, Guilherme Rambo found references for “Hey Siri” supporton new AirPods. There were also some hints in iOS 12.2 that new iPads are coming soon too.

The last beta added high and low heart rate notifications and irregular heart rhythm notifications as read-only category sample types. Apple made some UI tweaks to the Wallet app’s interface and changed some icons in Safari while adding some new features.
