The wait is over, Mario fans: Nintendo is about to officially release Super Mario Run.
The game will be available on both the iPhone and iPad today, Dec. 15, in 151 different countries and regions. While there’s a free demo included in the game, full access costs $9.99. That’s steep for a mobile game, but Super Mario Run doesn’t feature any in-app purchases, like many mobile games do. That means once you pay the $10 or so, you’ll have the full game.
To play, gamers tap the screen to make Mario jump, avoid enemies, and collect coins as he runs to finish the course. Players can choose from three different modes in Super Mario Run: World Tour, Toad Rally and Kingdom Builder. The first has players progress through levels and unlock different worlds. The second is a competitive mode where gamers can compete against other players’ best times. The third allows players to create their own “Mushroom Kingdom” using the coins they’ve collected in prior two modes.
Nintendo and Apple first announced Super Mario Run during the iPhone 7 press event in September.
