You may have noticed that your Mac is automatically downloading macOS Sierra updates. Now, it’s not as bad as the U2 debacle. It won’t be installed automatically. And there’s a way to disable this feature.

You might be one of cautious bunch, the kind that doesn’t install new macOS updates till a couple of months in. And if your work depends on that machine, that totally makes sense. But your Mac is going to download the update (as long as you have enough disk space), and will keep bugging you about it. If you want to avoid that, read on.

Disable Auto Downloads

macOS Sierra update downloads the same way that updates to OS and apps automatically download. This is a feature you can turn it off (but remember, it will turn off auto downloads for everything in the App Store).

Step 1: Click the “Apple” icon from the menu bar and select “System Preferences”.
