The Apple-owned Workflow app has been updated today to version 1.7.8, bringing new features and enhancements to the popular automation tool…

With today's update, Workflow for iOS includes a new Mask Image feature, something that avid users of the app have requested for years. As explained by MacStories, the feature makes it much easier for users to apply a mask to an image and cut it into any shape desired:

Workflow's native Mask Image action applies a mask to an image passed as input, cutting it into any shape you want. By default, the action offers three built-in presets: rounded rectangle (with a customizable Corner Radius value), ellipse, and icon.

Elsewhere, the update further expands the Add Things To-Do feature, using the Things automation and integration features introduced to the app last month. Workflow also improves its PDF to text feature, as well as drag and drop support.

Here's the full change log for today's update. In addition to these new features, there are a host of other bug fixes.

  • Added a new Mask Image action

  • Added new fields to the Add Things To-Do action

  • Dictionary items are now reorderable in the Dictionary action

  • The URL scheme now supports opening workflows — see documentation here

  • Improved the PDF to text coercion; extracting text from PDFs now works much better

  • Improved drag and drop handling; you can now drop content onto a workflow in My Workflows without waiting for spring-loading

Apple acquired Workflow back in March of last year and made the app a free download. Since then, it's received a handful of notable updates and continues to show no signs of slowing down. Download it on the App Store for free.
