Responding to a WhatsApp message while driving is, at best complicated, at worst a reckless and dangerous practice. But drivers of cars featuring with Apple's CarPlay will now be able to make easy use WhatsApp Messenger while keeping both hands on the wheel.
WhatsApp's latest update, version 2.18.20, allows it to integrate into the CarPlay system on suitably equipped cars, according to Dutch news website iCulture.
The new update will give users more options and control, allowing them to dictate messages while driving, or have incoming messages read aloud to them by the voice assistant Siri. Drivers will not be able to access older chats while behind the wheel however.
WhatsApp is the first third-party messenger to offer CarPlay integration and among the first high-profile apps to join the system.
