A TEENAGE girl has claimed Apple's Siri saved her life after she used it to call the Coast Guard and ask rescuers to save her family from Hurricane Harvey.

Tyler Frank suffers from a genetic condition called sickle cell anemia, which is often made worse by trauma or exposure to cold.

Tyler, her mother and three brothers woke up in the middle of the night on August 27 to find their home filled with water.

The family scrambled onto the roof but were unable to get through to emergency services - until Tyler came up with the idea of asking Siri to call the Coast Guard.

"I was like, 'Siri's smart enough! Let me ask her!'  A helicopter turned up the next afternoon, but left because its pilot was on a mission to pick up elderly people only. Then, the following morning she was finally picked up and taken to hospital.

"She's got this great sense of humour, she just made us laugh," said Dr Titilope Fasipe, a haematologist at Texas Children's Hospital. "It's so impressive what she and her family dealt with. I don't think most of us can even imagine."

Earlier this year, an American man who was badly burned in a house explosion also said that's Apple's Siri saved his life.

He used the software to call an ambulance after being badly burned in an explosion.
